Here come the holidays!

Published by lauraisham at 4:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Thanksgiving is next week.  The average person gains 5 to 7 pounds during the holidays.  All that good food combined with less daylight to get outside and burn off calories makes the holidays a treacherous time of year for weight conscious moms!  Here are a couple ways to keep off those extra pounds this year.

Before going to a holiday celebration, where there is usually lots of good food, eat a handful (just a handful) of nuts.  Almonds, walnuts, and pecans all pack a nutritional punch with healthy fats to keep you full.  Those high calorie foods won’t be nearly as tempting.

When you do get hungry, eat very slowly.  Chew each bite of food at least 20 times.  That gives your stomach enough time to feel full before you put more food in your mouth.  Every 3 or 4 bites ask yourself if you feel full.  Chatting with friends and family could distract you from listening to your stomach saying that it is full.  If in doubt, stop eating.  You can always go back for more if you get hungry later.

These two tactics will save you hundreds of calories this holiday season.  Give them a try!
